Samuel Taylor adopted advanced quality planning techniques as a key to the company's success back in the 1980s.
This is confirmed by our mission statement: "Progress through Quality". The framework around which we operate is our quality management system, registered by the British Standards Institution to the international standard BS EN ISO 9001:2000.
Within this framework STL utilises various quality tools to ensure that quality is built into both our designs and processes, these include:
- Advanced product quality planning (APQP)
- Product part approval process (PPAP)
- Design and Process F.M.E.A
- Design verification and validation
- Design for six sigma manufacturing
- Statistical techniques - Preliminary process capability studies (PPK)
- Ongoing process capability evaluation (CPK)
- Performance measurement
Our project-based teams work to ensure that quality improvement is a continuous process and that waste is minimised.
STL also believe that its employees are core to its success and the STL apprentice scheme ensures a good foundation for the business. Key skills and competence of the workforce have been developed to ensure quality at all stages of our processes. Suppliers take part in the quality planning process and the partnership approach is always used to optimise solutions for all within the supply chain.
Quality is company wide and all key business processes are mapped to identify and eliminate problems. Finally our Quality Policy emphasises our commitment to the highest quality.
It is the policy of STL to achieve total quality excellence in all areas of its activities by an uncompromising determination to conform to all customer’s requirements.
Total quality excellence demands that:
- We understand our customers
- We identify and understand all of their requirements
- We continually work to satisfy each of these requirements on time, every time and error free.
