Precision

Approach

Precision

Through a highly experienced and talented team of engineers using some of the best technology and raw materials available, we are able to manufacture custom-made products to suit individual applications. For example, bi- metallic strip rolled to a thickness of 50 microns has a typical tolerance of +/- 3 microns.

Engineering excellence

Our tool-making facility and key parts of our production processes, typically achieve tolerances down to a few microns. With the use of Statistical Process Controls techniques, batch to batch reproducibility is assured.

Technology and machines

STL invests heavily in the very latest technologies to design and build press-tools and production equipment. Machine tools are sourced globally. With core technology ranging from metallurgical bonding to mechanical joining, and adhesive bonding through to unique metal-processing and transformation skills, STL is fully equipped to tackle the most demanding of customer challenges.

Our state-of-the-art equipment ranges from custom-built rolling mills with Volmer flying micrometres and laser measurement, to cold heading machines with self-learning computer systems which can automatically shut a process down in the event of non-compliant product.
Housed in a temperature-controlled environment, we have programmable wire cut machines, programmable assembly machines, high speed Bruderer presses and several Ching Fong presses (100T/110T/300T) built to take progressive dies in excess of 2.5 metres long.
Our relationship with both Loughborough and Birmingham City Universities gives us unique access to SEM (scanning electron microscope) facilities and similar devices for real analysis and problem-solving in the material sciences through to rapid prototyping for both plastics and laser sintered metal technology.
